My Process

Though each problem has its own complexity and will have to be approached in a different manner, below is a consolidated model I have used as blue print to my Product Design process.

  • Problem and Idea: Define scope, ask what, why, and for whom the design is supposed to be delivered to? Reduce the problem scope and obtain an initial idea.
  • Ideation: Refine the idea incrementally based on:
    • Generative research
    • Primary user interviews and questionnaire
    • Focus group studies

Ideation cycle goes through multiple iteration until a conceptual design is distilled to a wireframe/mockup.

  • The wireframes and mockups are subjected to user research that includes field trials while observing points for refinement of design on return to the drawing board from scratch.
  • Once a conceptual design is finalized, we can move on to create high fidelity mockups where most of design elements can also be introduced. We subject them once more through the user research process. This allows ironing out of design elements and testing user behavior in a product close to development.
  • Once the first design shows sign of success, the development process begins which adds functionality to the already mature design at this phase.
  • Post-dev user testing: This allows the final working prototype to be tested and ironed out for design and development issues before we ship it.
  • Ship it! Obtain feedback and work on 2nd iteration usually from the ideation to user research phase.
